Southern Illinois man dies when tractor overturns into pond

ASHLEY, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a southern Illinois man was killed when his tractor overturned into a pond and trapped him under water.

Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger says 59-year-old David L. Paszkiewicz of Ashley died Thursday night. The Belleville News Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1SVNRGn ) that emergency crews were called at about 8:40 p.m. and firefighters recovered his body. He was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m.

Styninger says the owner of land that Paskiewicz was mowing found him and called authorities after he was notified by Paskiewicz's family that he hadn't returned home by 8 p.m.

The coroner says he didn't know how long Paszkiewicz was under water or the depth of the water. Styninger says an autopsy won't be performed.

Ashley is about 65 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri.
