AG Madigan supports bill to allow recall of Chicago mayor

CHICAGO (AP) - Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she supports a bill that would allow voters to recall Chicago's mayor. But that doesn't mean she believes Rahm Emanuel should leave office.

Madigan tells WBBM radio's "At Issue" (http://cbsloc.al/1Ni3lCU ) she also thinks voters should have the power to recall all Illinois elected officials - herself included.

There have been regular calls for Emanuel to resign or be recalled after the city last month released squad car video showing a white police officer shooting a black teen 16 times. But Emanuel has said he won't step down, and Chicago has no process for a recall election.

On Wednesday, Democratic state Rep. LaShawn Ford introduced legislation that would establish such a process.

Madigan sought a Justice Department investigation of the Chicago police department.
