Dougherty, Vernon Hills edge Lakes

Michael Dougherty scored a season-high 20 points, and Vernon Hills' boys basketball team sank 5 of 5 free throws down the stretch to hold off host Lakes and capture a 47-46 win in North Suburban Prairie Division action Saturday night.

Eric Weiler, Vernon Hills' 6-foot-7 center, blocked 7 shots and scored 7 points. Jay Holloway also had 7 points for Vernon Hills (5-3, 2-1).

Colton Jewell's season-high 21 points led Lakes (3-4, 0-2), which lost its third game in a row. Jordan Mercure had 9 points for the Eagles.

Stevenson 85, Mundelein 34: Justin Smith and Eric Zalewski each scored 15 points for the Patriots in their home opener.

Ryuji Aoki and Willie Herenton added 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Stevenson, which improved to 5-1 and 2-0 in the North Suburban Lake.

Tommy Marcotte had 14 points for Mundelein (0-7, 0-2).

North Chicago 84, Wauconda 68: Kyle Drobnick scored 14 points for the host Bulldogs in their North Suburban Prairie loss.

Jarod Stonis added 10 points for Wauconda (2-4, 1-1), while Bryan Nee had nine.

Prairie Ridge 41, Grayslake Central 34: Grant Hupp had 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and was the visiting Rams' only double-digit scorer in their Fox Valley Fox loss.

Grayslake Central fell to 3-5 and 1-2 in the division.
