Eagle Scout designs prayer labyrinth for local church

Boy Scout Christian Metzger of Troop 13 in St. Charles recently completed his Eagle Scout project at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church in Geneva. He designed, planned, and led a team to build a prayer labyrinth made from paving stones. A prayer labyrinth is a circular path used to facilitate prayer.

Christian was inspired by a similar prayer labyrinth he had seen at another church. When he pitched the idea to his church, they loved the idea.

Christian said the hardest part of the project was the hard labor and removing sod. He and his work crew cut and dug out 295 sod bits. His favorite part of the project? Christian said, "(It) was to see it come together, looking back at the end of a work day and seeking how far we'd come. It made all the hard work worth it in the end."

Christian learned the importance of leadership from his project and how to divide a workload when managing a group of people. He says, "Now I know that as a leader it's important to be responsible in your work and set an example with your skills and attitude to others."

"The experience I gained from running a work team will certainly benefit me later on in the working world," he added.
