Trinity introduces four new undergraduate majors

The undergraduate faculty of Trinity International University has approved four new major programs of study for freshman students beginning in the fall semester of 2016.

The four new majors are: Criminal Justice, Human Services, Social and Interactive Media and Pre-Seminary Biblical Studies/Christian Ministries. Each concentrated program draws from classes in a variety of disciplines.

Many of the programs will attract students who want to be prepared for additional study once their undergraduate degrees are completed. For example, those who complete the criminal justice major could enter law school, a police academy or advanced criminology training within a law enforcement agency.

Human services graduates could enter Master of Social Work programs or pursue advanced degrees in sociology or nonprofit leadership. The pre-seminary major prepares students to enter graduate programs in pastoral and theological studies.

"Trinity College is committed to distinctly Christian programs which seek to engage the culture," Dean Thomas Cornman said. "Our new majors will allow us to prepare our students to engage culture while focusing on the needs of others through Christ-centered approaches to these fields."

In Criminal Justice, students will take 37 credit hours of core courses such as criminology, constitutional law, and corrections. They will also choose 13-16 credit hours of course work from one of three areas of emphasis: legal studies, law enforcement, or digital studies.

Human Services students will complete two required internships and 48 credit hours, including classes in human diversity, social movements, and human behavior.

The Pre-Seminary Biblical Studies/Christian Ministries program of study was developed in response to student requests for additional biblical studies as they prepare for seminary. Students who complete the new major can proceed to do graduate work with advanced standing in the Master of Divinity program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Students in the Social and Interactive Media program primarily will take communication, graphic design, and business classes. Graduates will be prepared to "focus on organizational communication in digital and interactive contexts," according to the proposal for the new major.
