St. Martin's to host 'Blue Christmas' service

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Des Plaines will host "Blue Christmas: A Service of Darkness and Light."

For many, this time of year is joyous. But for some, it is something to be endured. St. Martin's Episcopal Church believes it is important to respect the fact that not everyone will have a happy holiday, perhaps due to life circumstances or the recent loss of a loved one.

"Blue Christmas: A Service of Darkness and Light" is a service that honors and recognizes that reality and provides space and time for reflection on the fact that it doesn't always feel like God is present and it can feel like we are wandering in the dark. This service serves as a reminder that God is always with us, even in the darkness.

"I pray that this service provides a time and place for those wandering to find solace in the loving arms of God," said the Rev. M.E. Eccles.

The church is at 1095 Thacker St., Des Plaines.

St. Martin's Episcopal Church is a diverse, caring and spirit-filled community, actively drawing people to Christ and connecting God's love to the world. For details, visit www.saintmartinschurchdp.com.
