Students, seniors team up for dinner, concert

Dinner was served Tuesday as about 300 senior residents of District 128 attended their annual holiday dinner and performance.

Members of the Libertyville High School National Honor Society served coffee and dinner to the local seniors.

LHS National Honor Society Outreach Coordinator Delores Palmieri enjoys the interaction of talking with the seniors.

"You see the smile on their face even when you just pour them a cup of coffee and the excitement of talking to them and hearing their stories. It's definitely a very fun experience that we get to do," Palmieri said.

Twenty members of the Libertyville NHS served a dinner of chicken Kiev, rice, vegetables, a roll and a piece of cake.

The event helped National Honor Society members to reach their goal of eight hours of community service they are required to do per semester.

Former Libertyville High School teacher Marilyn Huskey has been attending the event for several years.

"It's fabulous. It always get me into the Christmas spirit. It's always a special, wonderful event," said Huskey.

Following dinner was a holiday concert in the auditorium featuring the Libertyville High School Holiday Choir.

The concert concluded with an invitation for the local seniors to join the choir on stage to sing the Hallelujah chorus.
