Arlington Hts. has new Citizen Police Academy grads

Class No. 22 of the Arlington Heights Citizen Police Academy held it's graduation ceremony in the council chamber of the village hall on Tuesday Nov. 17. The academy graduation was attended by Mayor Thomas Hayes, Chief of Police Gerald Mourning and special guest village Trustee Carol Blackwood.

The graduation ceremony recognized 23 citizen students and followed the first public demonstration of search and apprehension techniques by the police department's newest K-9 team of Officer Jeff Tegtmeyer and his K-9 partner, Yara. To date and since the inception of the Academy program in 2005, the Arlington Heights Police Department has graduated more than 500 village residents and business leaders through Academy classes.

Applications for the spring 2016 Academy program are available through the village of Arlington Heights website at vah.com and at the police department's information desk.

Questions regarding academy activities and class scheduling can be directed to Officer Robert Kostka in the department's Community Services Bureau at (847) 368-5390.
