Ela Township Represented and Recognized at Township Officials of Illinois' 2015 Educational Conference
Ela Township officials and staff attended the Township Officials of Illinois' 2015 Educational Conference in Springfield Nov. 8-10.
This year's conference, "Township Government: Learn from Us!" brought together over a thousand townships from across the state to attend sessions covering the latest developments in local government management, fiscal practices, general assistance, legislation and other issues, according to a press release.
Susan Dillon, Ela Township's Director of Adult and Senior Services, was named "Senior Director of the Year."
"It was a very big surprise," she said.
Ela Township Trustee Gloria Palmblad received the "Friend of the Youth" award for her dedication to supporting youth initiatives including chairing the township's Youth Committee, providing after school homework help, working with special needs children and serving on the board of the Lake Zurich Baseball and Softball Association.
"It was nice to see the acknowledgment," said Ela Township Supervisor Lucy Prouty, who also serves on the Township Officials of Illinois' Board of Directors.
Prouty, who was named Supervisor of the Year at the 2014 conference, said the annual event is a valuable resource for township officials and staff to become better educated on how to improve township programs and services.
Noteworthy topics included FOIA compliance, digital government strategy, technology, size and weight limit laws for roads, record retention and community programs for seniors and youth, according to a press release.
"New and returning officials all learn more about their duties by attending our conference. There is much to be gained from the educational sessions and from the networking opportunities," said Bryan E. Smith, Executive Director of Townships Officials of Illinois, in a statement. "Each year brings changes in the law and new opportunities for improved township services."
