Tell Dist. 214 to stop levy hikes

The District 214 school board is voting on its final approval for a tax levy increase of 1.8 percent at the Dec. 10 meeting. When is this going to stop?

The taxpayers are getting nailed again because of an overzealous group of school board members who believe that they can just keep taking money out of our pockets. Last year, Dist. 214 had an "excess" of over $40 million. At that time, I asked the board about getting this money back to the taxpayers because we have been overpaying for the schools for at least five years.

That was mildly considered and instead, the board voted to spend this money on frivolous projects that for the most part were not necessary. I read now that these projects except for the Prospect pool are on hold. I ask again why we need an increase in our tax bill for the schools when they already have at least $30 million of our money tagged for unnecessary projects.

Use this money that you have already taken from us and stop coming at us for more every year. This should alarm everyone who pays taxes into Dist. 214 schools and call attention to the abuse that we are constantly experiencing.

Come to the meeting on Dec. 10 and tell the board no more money!
