Two injured in crash near Old Mill Creek
Two people were injured Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in unincorporated Old Mill Creek, authorities said.
A preliminary investigation determines that the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was driving south on Hunt Club Road when he "failed to negotiate a curve" in the road, according to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office.
Around 5 a.m., sheriff's deputies arrived and found the vehicle in a wooded area about 700 feet from the road, where it stopped after striking several trees, authorities said.
The driver, a 28-year-old man, sustained serious but nonlife threatening injuries, sheriff's detective Chris Covelli said. A 33-year-old female passenger was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, he said.
Both were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, officials said.
No additional information was available Sunday, Covelli said, noting that "part of the investigation will be to determine if drugs or alcohol played a factor."
An investigation conducted by the sheriff's Technical Crash Investigation Unit is ongoing.
