Attorney to seek venue change in southern Indiana crash

PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana judge is scheduled to hear arguments next month on whether the trial of a man accused of driving while intoxicated in a deadly crash should be moved to another county because of media attention.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports (http://bit.ly/1IM9ByD) Daniel Moon, the attorney for James Allen, told Gibson County Superior Court Judge Earl Penrod on Thursday he plans to request a change of venue. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Sharon Werne says she intends to oppose the motion. Penrod scheduled a hearing for Jan. 6.

Allen faces numerous charges for a crash involving a 16-passenger van that was carrying 22 people in September when it overturned on a southwestern Indiana highway, killing two people.

Allen remains in custody at the Gibson County Jail on $5,000 bond.
