Women's Club of Inverness making a difference every day

For more than 50 years, the Women's Club of Inverness has found ways to contribute to the community through such events as Make a Difference Day and Adopt-a-Family.

When Kathy Millin, executive director of the Northwest Opportunity Center in Palatine, related the center was close to running out of snacks, WCI members swung into action, collecting snacks and juice for children whose last meal of the day may be the treat they receive after school.

As part of Make a Difference Day, WCI also collected food for the Palatine Food Pantry. Clients of the pantry thank all the organizations and volunteers who remember neighbors by helping to maintain the pantry.

"I thank you with all my heart," wrote one. "Now I can cover living and medical expenses," wrote another. "I appreciate the help," writes a single father of two. "God Bless!"

Next up in philanthropy for WCI is bringing holiday cheer to families in need. WCI has "adopted" six families (28 individuals). Members are busy shopping for winter coats, books, and toys. Last year a mother wrote, "You gave my children Christmas."
