Nepotism rule should have been kept
Elk Grove Park District recently changed the rule regarding the hiring of family members by hiring the son of Park Board President Bill O'Malley. Brian O'Malley knew the rule was in place and should not have applied for the position in the first place.
This now sets a precedent for future hires in Elk Grove Government. As 44-year residents of the village, we strongly disagree with the rule change and support the one dissenting vote by John Walz.
Mr. Walz' statement, "We had checks and balances in place, and we're removing it" is spot on.
Other levels of government have not had this rule (or have ignored it if there was one), and look at the mess we have at the county, state and federal levels.
