Aurora man charged in vehicle theft, burglaries

A homeless Aurora man has been charged with multiple car burglaries on the city's far west side, police say.

Brian G. Labombarbe, 18, has been charged with six crimes dating back to early November that occurred in the area of West Sullivan and Orchard Roads, according to a news release.

He was arrested on Nov. 6 after he stole a pickup truck from a business on the 1900 block of Plum Street, police said. Officers responding to the call spotted Labombarbe and pursued him to the 700 block of Charles Street, where he leapt from the moving vehicle, the news release said.

Police caught Labombarbe after a short foot chase. The unoccupied truck crashed into a tree. Nobody was injured. Labombarbe was charged with felony unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police investigating several other car burglaries and thefts say they recognized Labombarbe from surveillance video taken a hotel on the 2400 block of Bushwood Drive, where they were investigating four vehicle burglaries, as well as another in a day care center parking lot on the 2400 block of West Sullivan Road. All happened overnight on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6.

They also connected him to the theft of a vehicle left running and unattended Nov. 6 in front of a restaurant on the 1300 block of North Orchard, the news release said.

Labombarbe was charged with motor vehicle theft and unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, as well as two felony counts of burglary to a motor vehicle and three misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle. More than $700 in losses and damages were reported, police said.

Labombarbe remains in the Kane County jail on $115,000 bail.
