Nadine Angerer named Thorns goalkeeper coach
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Former German national team goalkeeper and 2013 FIFA World Player of the Year Nadine Angerer has been named goalkeeper coach for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League.
Angerer, 37, played for the Thorns for the past two seasons before retiring from both club and international play this fall. She became a fan favorite during her time with the club.
Angerer played for Germany in the Women's World Cup in Canada last summer. The top-ranked Germans fell in the semifinals to the eventual champion U.S. team.
She finished her international career with 146 appearances. In the 2007 World Cup, Angerer did not concede a goal during the tournament in leading Germany to the title.
