Downers Grove library reopens after suspicious package scare
The Downers Grove Public Library reopened at 6 p.m. Wednesday after officials investigated a suspicious package for several hours.
An update to the village website said that the DuPage County sheriff's bomb squad determined that the object was not hazardous and that the library had reopened and resumed normal operations.
Around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday the Downers Grove police were notified that a library staff member found a suspicious parcel on the second floor, said Marsha Giesler, a spokeswoman for the fire department.
Police verified that there was a questionable package and called the bomb squad to investigate further.
The library was evacuated for more than three hours, and roads near the library were blocked due to police activity.
The library posted on Twitter that it was given the "all clear" by police and thanked them for investigating.
