Libertyville High honors football team after title loss
They fell short in their quest for a state title, but the members of Libertyville High School's varsity football team were honored by classmates, teachers and administrators Monday.
On the first day of classes after Saturday's Class 7A championship game, the Wildcats marched through the halls in what's become a tradition for the school's top performing teams.
Afterward, Principal Marina Scott praised the young athletes for their work on and off the field.
"They put their whole heart into this," Scott said.
Glenbard West beat Libertyville 34-28 at Northern Illinois University's Huskie Stadium in DeKalb to win the title. Scott said she was at the game and was happy to see so many fans wearing black and orange.
"It was a full community event," she said. "It's a mark of what Libertyville is about. People come out and support each other."
