Elk Grove Township Board Unanimously Votes in Favor of Tax Levy Freeze
The Elk Grove Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favor of freezing the tax levy for fiscal year 2016-2017 at their November 23, 2015 meeting.
Elk Grove Township Supervisor Mike Sweeney said the Township is exactly where it needs to be to cover operating expenses.
"Our job is to ensure that our services and programs remain viable, and to maintain (and not increase) the tax levy whenever possible; we have been diligent in continuing to streamline all of our operations," he said.
Sweeney cited the Township's efforts to create both public and private partnerships, which have not only increased the Township's service reach, but also provided additional avenues to support programs through donated items and volunteers.
In June of 2015, the Elk Grove Township Board approved the hiring of Paul Pioch as the first Elk Grove Township administrator, which Sweeney said has been a central reason for cost savings and holding the line on the tax levy. Since he began in the role, Pioch has created new programs without adding an additional tax burden onto Township residents.
They include a job posting program where Chicagoland employers are invited to post opportunities for residents searching for employment, and the first-ever Snow Angels Campaign in partnership with Community Consolidated School District 59. The program, which runs through December 15, invites area residents and/or businesses to donate new or gently used snow boots and snow pants for in-need District 59 students. Re-adjustment counseling services for combat veterans and their family members are also part of the new program offerings, and were created in partnership with the Vet Center in Evanston.
The Elk Grove Township tax levy must be submitted to Cook County by the last Tuesday in December each year. Click the links to view the Town Fund and General Assistance Tax Levy Ordinance and the Road District Tax Levy Ordinance. For more information, please call Elk Grove Township at 847-437-0300.
