3 die in single-car crash in McHenry County area

Three teenagers are dead after a single-car crash Friday afternoon in unincorporated Nunda Township in McHenry County.

According to a news release from the McHenry County sheriff's office, a preliminary investigation indicated that a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling south on the 1300 block of South Lily Lake Road, south of Wegner Road, in unincorporated McHenry County at about 2:10 p.m., when, after a slight right curve, the vehicle began to yaw, veered off the roadway and crashed into multiple trees.

The vehicle came to rest on its left side in a wet ravine against another tree, the release said.

The vehicle's owner, Promise Williamsen, 18, of Holiday Hills, was seated in the front passenger seat. She was transported by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District to Centegra Hospital-McHenry, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver, James Seward of McHenry, and the left rear passenger, Kelly Cronin of Island Lake, both 18, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office said all occupants of the Chevrolet were wearing their seat belts, and both front air bags were deployed.

Examination, autopsy and toxicology will be performed by the McHenry County coroner to determine the cause of death of each victim.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.

Members of the Holiday Hills and Lakemoor Police Departments assisted with traffic control.
