Black Friday shopping a tradition for Carpentersville family

Shopping on Black Friday is a tradition for Kelly Gatenby and her family because her birthday falls near Thanksgiving.
"We did a little pre-birthday shopping," her husband, Scott, said after their shopping spree Friday morning at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee. Kelly Gatenby's birthday is Saturday.
The couple's daughter, Ava, 11, said she was happy to get a pair of silver shoes. Other purchases were boots, a coat, and a hoodie. Mom and daughter also got formal dresses for a wedding in December.
"We just shopped for ourselves," Kelly Gatenby said.
