Ultimate's Hoyer set to join Spartans

Ally Hoyer, who competes at Level 10 for Ultimate Gymnastics of Gurnee, will be joining the ranks of Michigan State University next year. The senior from Grayslake North High School signed her National Letter of Intent recently and is looking forward to competing for the Spartans in the 2016-17 season.

"I'm so excited to be joining the team next year," Ally said. "I knew from my first visit that this was the school for me."

Ally is a powerful gymnast, particularly on floor exercise. In 2014, she placed second on that event at the Level 10 JO Nationals. Her all-around performance at that meet ranked her 14th out of the top 56 gymnasts her age from across the United States.

Earlier this year, she claimed the balance beam title at the Region 5 Regional meet, where she was also runner-up on floor exercise.

Announcing Ally's addition to the team on the MSU website, head coach Kathie Klages said, "She not only is an outstanding gymnast, but is a great student and person. We believe she has all the strong character traits that coaches love in their athletes. We are so excited to welcome Ally to the Spartan family."

Her mother, Tina, is proud.

"Looking back at the long journey Ally has taken and all the hard work she has put in, I am filled with admiration and respect for all she has achieved," she said.

Ally is the third gymnast in recent years to join the ranks of Ultimate girls competing at the collegiate level. Warren High School's Emily Basara is a freshman this year on the team at Northern Illinois, while Carmel's Lauren Feely is in her junior year with the Falcons at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
