Indiana man gets 65 years in mother-in-law's slaying
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A northeastern Indiana man convicted in his mother-in-law's fatal stabbing has been sentenced to 65 years in prison.
The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1X3vqpd ) an Allen County judge sentenced Freddie Alcantar Jr. on Friday in Debra Jones' August 2013 murder.
A jury convicted Alcantar in October of murder in her killing. Alcantar has maintained his innocence and said he plans to appeal.
Allen County prosecutors described Jones' murder scene as one of the most gruesome they have ever seen.
Jones was stabbed multiple times and her throat slit on Aug. 30, 2013. Trial testimony said she tried to write the name of her killer in her own blood as she lay dying.
