Scouting Lisle
Lisle
Coach: Mark LaScala.
Last year: 10-16, 4-7, tied for eighth in the Interstate Eight Conference; lost to Chicago Christian in a Class 2A Lisle regional quarterfinal.
Top players: Ryan Gillen, sr., G; Adalberto Gutierrez, sr., F; Grant Haen, jr., G; Josh Jamison, jr., F; Nick Massura, sr., G-F; Mark McGrath, jr., F; Bryan O'Connel, jr., F; Derrick Redmond, sr., G; Trevor Stitt, jr., G.
Scouting report: McGrath, Gillen, Massura and point guard Redmond are returning starters and Stitt started some as well. They bring energy, chemistry, toughness, shooting and ball handling. What they don't bring is height. Thus, the 6-1 McGrath and the 5-11 Gutierrez will do their best in post defense, aided by slightly taller juniors O'Connel and Jamison. On defense and on the glass this lack of height matters most; offensively Lisle is likely to be quicker, can hit from the outside, run the floor and cause mismatches with interchangeable personnel. McGrath averaged 13 points and 4.3 rebounds last season, while Massura hit 43 3-pointers and Gillen 30. Shot selection needs work, which they'll be sure to put in. "This is a group of guys that plays as hard as anybody I've ever coached," LaScala said.
