Elk Grove Village's 'Heart of a Marine' Day is Nov. 17
"The Heart Of A Marine Foundation Day" has been proclaimed for Tuesday, Nov. 17 in Elk Grove Village.
The proclamation will be read at the Elk Grove Village village board meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 17, presided over by Mayor Craig Johnson. The foundation, which is headquartered in Elk Grove Village, is commemorating 10 years of serving all branches of the United States Armed Forces, veterans and their families.
"We are honored for the recognition, and proud to be in Elk Grove," said co-founder Georgette Frank, a Gold Star mom. "The work goes on. There is more to do. As long as there is a veteran need, we will be there to help."
In 10 years, The Heart Of A Marine Foundation has affected the lives of thousands of veterans and active duty military through its programs, projects and outreach.
"We may come under the radar," Georgette Frank added, "and that's OK with us. It's about our military and veterans - as long as they get the help, assistance and recognition, that's what matters."
Local businesses are encouraged to be "a Part of the Heart" on Nov. 17, in whatever way they can, said Foundation Executive Director Barbara Matsukes. They can fundraise for the Foundation, or hold a winter clothing drive for homeless veterans, she suggested.
On Nov. 16-18 Mario Tricoci Salon and Spa will donate 10 percent of a client's bill to the Heart of a Marine Foundation. The Ram Restaurant & Brewery in Schaumburg will give 10 percent from all food and beverage sales from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 17. In both cases, customers should first download a voucher at www.heartofamarine.org/heart-of-a-marine-foundation-day.
"We are so appreciative to these businesses in making a difference," said Roy Frank, the other co-founder and a Gold Star dad.
"As often as we can, we keep our business dealings local, that's important to us. It's nice to see the reciprocation. Their generosity is humbling, and funds raised will assist our military and veterans."
The Heart Of A Marine Foundation is a registered 501c3 organization established in the memory, honor, and spirit of Marine Lance Corporal Phillip Frank, killed in action in April 2004.
