No. 16 Stanford women roll past UC Davis 74-45 in opener

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) - Briana Roberson scored 15 points and Alanna Smith added 13 as No. 16 Stanford won a season opener on the road, 74-45 at UC Davis.

The Cardinal made just 27 of 71 field goals, but their 38-percent shooting seemed pretty hot compared with UC Davis' 24 percent (13-of-55).

Stanford scored 24 points off 27 UC Davis turnovers and out-rebounded the Aggies 47-45. Size and experience favored the Cardinal, who outscored UC Davis 14-7 in second-chance points, blocked 10 shots and got 38 points off the bench, compared with 11 for the Aggies.

A 9-1 run over the end of the first quarter and start of the second gave Stanford a 23-16 lead after the Aggies led by four early in the game.

UC Davis closed to 29-24 at the half, but Stanford erupted with a 31-8 third quarter to seize the game.

Rachel Nagel led the Aggies with 18 points.
