Support for carbon fee shows in Massachusetts

I am responding to the letter, "Fight climate change with carbon fee." I recently went to a hearing at the Massachusetts State House concerning just such a proposal of placing a fee on carbon then rebating the proceeds to consumers.

This is a straightforward way to combat pollution and climate change. As the cost of using fossil fuels goes up, the most vulnerable citizens are protected.

The hearing room was packed to overflowing. It was even hard to find a place to stand. For several hours people testified as to why Massachusetts needs this bill to pass.

At the current time, Massachusetts is involved in a multistate cap-and-trade plan that has reduced emissions from electricity greatly but does not cover transportation and heating, which is where this bill fits in.

With the stagnation in Washington, it becomes apparent that we need to act the state level to mitigate climate change and help us all to breath easier.
