Local Winery Celebrates 7 Years In Old Wheeling Prohibition Haunt
On November 15, 2008, Lynfred Winery embarked on a new venture bringing its family winemaking tradition to a charming, converted farm house in Lake County, Illinois. Hand selected by Lynfred Founder Fred Koehler, Lynfred Winery's Wheeling location was reminiscent of the early days of Lynfred in Roselle. The house, constructed in the 1920s, was once a hang-out for bootleggers during Prohibition and is now a cozy tasting room and private event space.
In the last 7 years, Lynfred Winery Wheeling has grown from a two-associate team with 25 members (all borrowed from Lynfred Winery Roselle) to a 10 associate crew with nearly 800 wine club members. A home once shrouded in secrecy during Prohibition now stands as a lively tribute to America's winemaking heritage, complete with the iconic wood work recognized at all Lynfred locations.
