North Aurora marijuana dispensary opens
The PharmaCannis medical marijuana dispensary in North Aurora opened Tuesday, one day after the state allowed dispensaries to start selling the drug.
"The first day has gone great," Clay Wynn, the dispensary's manager, said late in the afternoon. "A couple people almost started welling up (with tears)," he said, because they were so happy they could finally legally buy the drug they think will relieve their suffering.
The dispensary had four strains of marijuana available Tuesday. It expects to have 10, beginning Wednesday or Thursday, Wynn said.
As she had announced at an open house several weeks ago, Trisha Seydel of Wheaton was the first buyer. She's the mother of PharmaCannis' co-chief executive officer, John Leja.
Seydel will be using the marijuana to relieve pain from rheumatoid arthritis.
The dispensary is in an office building at 161 S. Lincolnway, in the village's central business district.
PharmaCannis also has dispensaries in Schaumburg, Ottawa and Evanston. The Ottawa site opened Monday, the Schaumburg site is expected to open later this week, and Evanston will open in a few weeks.
The North Aurora facility has about 150 registered clients. About 50 of them came to the dispensary Tuesday, Wynn said.
