Autopsy finds southern Indiana jewelry store owner was shot

AUSTIN, Ind. (AP) - State police say an autopsy found the owner of a southern Indiana jewelry store had been shot and his death is being investigated as a murder.

Police say the preliminary cause of death for 79-year-old John Turner of Austin was a gunshot wound to the head. An official determination won't be made until autopsy results are complete.

Turner was found dead by a family member Saturday in what was thought to be medical emergency. When a doctor and the Scott County Coroner's Office examined Turner at a hospital, they noticed a head wound inconsistent with the suspected medical issue. Police now say someone entered John's Coin and Jewelry Shop in downtown Austin and robbed and shot Turner.

The autopsy was performed at the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville.
