So sneaky, those rascally Republicans

Those rascally Republicans are so sneaky. In their latest stunt, in their war against women, they somehow managed to manipulate Glamour Magazine into naming Bruce a/k/a Caitlin Jenner as Woman of the Year.

This event reminded me of a popular film I saw years ago, "Tootsie," with Dustin Hoffman playing a woman. In the film, Hoffman's abrasive character undermines his acting career to such an extent that no one wanted to work with him. So, he changed his professional persona into a woman and found work in television as the title character. This brought him great acclaim from critics and the public. And then, I recalled Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire," where he pretended to be a woman, so that he could be close to his children whose custody he lost in a divorce.

Years earlier, Rex Harrison sang, "Why can't a woman be like a man?" in "My Fair Lady," which succinctly summed up the theme of these movies.

The subtext clearly shows the Republicans' hands in all this. We are supposed to believe that liberal Democrats dominate the entertainment industry and Washington. Ha! Just more Republican trickery. Obviously, Republicans and their rich friends have ambushed the culture and deconstructed the legal system and science into ignoring basic realities such as sex. But, the biggie, the opiate in the brain, is establishing in the imagination of the popular culture the idea that the best women are really men. They are so sneaky, aren't they?
