Authorities mum on search of rural area of central Indiana

WHEELING, Ind. (AP) - Authorities who are searching a large tract of rural land in central Indiana won't discuss the nature of their investigation.

Muncie police officers, Delaware County sheriff's deputies and FBI agents began searching a more than 140-acre area Thursday in northern Delaware County.

The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/20x089u ) that a cadaver dog joined the search and authorities appeared to dig a series of shallow holes in the backyard of a home in the search area.

Muncie Police Chief Steve Stewart declined to comment on the search, including whether authorities are looking for a body. He says the search would resume Friday. It also extended to a home in the community of Royerton north of Muncie.

Muncie police did not immediately return a message left Friday morning seeking comment on the search.
