Deadline nears for Consumers Cooperative Association scholarships

WAUKEGAN - Consumers Cooperative Association, the sponsor for Consumers Credit Union, is seeking applications for its scholarship program. CCA offers local students the opportunity to earn one of six scholarships offered by the association.

The deadline to apply for the 2016 scholarship is 1 p.m. Dec. 31.

The $2,000 scholarships are available for students scheduled to graduate high school in the spring of 2016. Applications are available at area high schools, online at www.myconsumers.org, and at all six CCU locations. Valid applications must include the student's official high school transcript through their junior year, a copy of their first semester grades from the current academic year, and a non-returnable photograph. Applicants and/or their parents/guardians must also be a Member of CCU for a minimum of one year.

Applicants are evaluated based on academic performance, financial need, leadership abilities, and their involvement within the local community. "Scholarships are just one of the ways we're able to support the continuing education of our high school students," said Julian Penny, Consumers Cooperative Association President. "We know that the youth of today are the potential leaders of tomorrow. With that understanding, comes the responsibility and commitment to actively support higher education for our young people."
