St. Charles Kiwanis Club grants help local agencies
The St. Charles Kiwanis Club grants for October continue to assist area agencies that help children and families in need.
CASA Kane County helps children of abuse and neglect by placing them in foster care. Working with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, volunteer CASAs - Court Appointed Special Advocates - attend all courtroom hearings with their designated children, and make sure they receive their needed services. Advocates receive special training and pledge a 24- to 48-month commitment.
Association for Individual Development helps adults and children in the Fox Valley with disabilities. The organization served 5,300 individuals in fiscal year 2013.
The Kiwanis grant is targeted for the Children's Mental Health Program, which allows children with disorders such as bipolar, ADD, and ADHD to avoid being institutionalized.
Shelter Assistance works in conjunction with the Salvation Army of St. Charles to assist with rent and mortgage payments for those in need. In 2014, the organization awarded $29,000 to 66 families in the Tri-Cities. The Salvation Army also donated to the cause.
