Elmhurst police looking for man who tried to lure children

Elmhurst police said Tuesday they're looking for a man believed to have been involved in two child luring attempts that occurred less than two miles from each other.

Police said that about 3:15 p.m. on Halloween, three children ages 5 through 11 were walking near Third Street and Clinton Avenue when they were approached by a man in a vehicle. He pulled the car over, started to get out and asked, “Do you want some candy?” according to an Elmhurst Police Department alert.

The children ran away and went to a friend's home nearby, police said.

Authorities said the children's description of the man and vehicle are similar to descriptions provided during another child luring incident that occurred at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 18 near Fremont Avenue and Ridgeland Avenue.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, about 40 years old, with a medium build, short dark hair, and possibly a mustache. His vehicle is described as an older model white Ford SUV, possibly an Escape, with rust along the bottom of the driver's-side door. It was last seen traveling north on Clinton Avenue.
