Golfers can sign up for Naperville Turkey Shoot

Golfers looking for a fun, end-of-season tournament may enter the Naperville Park District's annual Turkey Shoot.

Taking place Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 21 and 22, at both Springbrook and Naperbrook golf courses, each shoot will consist of a field of up to 90 players - a total of 18 fivesome teams. Registration will be in person only starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Naperbrook Golf Course, 22204 W. 111th St., Plainfield.

As always, participants may choose to donate the cash equivalent of their prize turkey to charity. This year, donations will go to the Naperville Parks Foundation to support golf and recreation scholarships for local families in need.

New at Springbrook Golf Course this fall, golfers now have the option of joining a yoga class at the Brooks Golf Academy Training Center. Yoga for Golfers is designed to develop flexibility, stability and balance for an improved golf swing. A series of four classes is underway, with more classes offered in the winter.

In addition to yoga, personal training sessions and group training classes are available at the Brooks Golf Academy Training Center, taught by PGA golf professional and NASM-certified instructor Todd Russell.

Since opening in April, the center has attracted all ages for golf fitness training.

"My clients that have gone through 10 or 20 sessions of training are reporting great results," Russell said.

"Overall, they are feeling better from day to day, with more flexibility, better cardiovascular gains, strength gains, and more rotation and freedom in their golf swing. Some of my clients are now walking and carrying their own golf bags, when before they would ride in a cart and play."
