No injuries in fire at Wheeling laundry

Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that started in a Wheeling health care laundry business Monday evening.

Wheeling Battalion Chief John Baumgartner said crews responded around 6:50 p.m. to a report of a fire at 45 W. Hintz Road.

The fire was contained to one washing machine, but it was spreading through a vent and up to the roof when crews arrived, Baumgartner said.

The building was occupied at the time of the fire, and everyone was evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Baumgartner said the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.

"It smoked up the building pretty good," he said.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Baumgartner said it appears the machine overheated. No damage estimates were immediately available.
