New radio station serves Huntley, nearby towns

We'd like to introduce you to radio station WHRU, 101.5 FM. It's a new, low-power FM station that broadcasts seven days a week, 24 hours a day to your community.

It's called Huntley Community Radio, but the signal can be heard not only in Huntley, but in Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Carpentersville, Gilberts, and parts of other surrounding towns.

It's an all-volunteer station, but you will hear unique and amazing programs covering a diverse selection of topics from news, health, sports, old-time radio, literature, animals, gardening, agriculture, dining, tennis, travel, interviews of local celebrities and oh, so much more.

No matter what kind of music you like, you'll probably find it here - the Beatles, classic, show tunes, blues, jazz, rock, EDM (electronic dance music), polka, swing, just name it, and if we don't have it, contact us at huntleyradio.org and we'll add it to the schedule.

Our mission is to serve our communities in ways that major commercial stations cannot do. This column will appear in the Neighbor section of the Daily Herald every other Tuesday.

To listen to WHUR, dial 101.5 on your FM dial. Or go online to Huntleyradio.org. There you can "ListenLive," print the weekly schedule or go to the "podcast section, and there you'll find hundreds of programs going back to when we began broadcasting in 2012. They're called "podcasts" - you can listen to any one of them any time.

I'd also like to tell you about a couple of new shows. Every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 3 p.m., you can listen to "Aviation Life," a show about the art and science of aviation from every aspect. If you'd like some fun, our newest show, "3 Guys Walk into a Bar," broadcasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 p.m. Starting on Wednesday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, a new monthly show "Net Vet Radio" begins. This program will honor and remember all veterans who have served our country in all wars. In addition to hearing their stories, information, listing services available for veterans will be provided for our local community veterans.

We sincerely hope you'll tune in. We think you'll be amazed at what community folks can produce.

Remember 101.5FM or huntleyradio.org.
