Habitat for Humanity to dedicate latest home

As Montgomery-based Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity dedicates home No. 53, volunteers will launch project No. 54, both on Saturday, Nov. 7.

About 9 a.m., 15 volunteers from Travel and Transport will begin rehabbing a vacant house at 609 N. Elmwood Drive in Aurora.

At 1 p.m., Fox Valley Habitat will hold dedication ceremonies for the Latricia Stone home at 911 W. Galena Blvd. in Aurora, Habitat's 53rd project since 1989.

The public is invited said the Rev. Jeffrey Barrett, Habitat executive director and pastor at Genesis Community Church in Montgomery. The dedication ceremony will include prayers by the Rev. Barrett, recognition of donors and volunteers, and an open house with refreshments.

A dove release will conclude the event.

Stone's family includes sons Samuel, 10, and Yinka, 19. They expect to occupy their new residence in the week following dedication.

The Rev. Barrett said volunteers began rehabbing the Galena Blvd. house in October 2014. The former owner donated the structure to Habitat after a fire. Volunteers have included East Aurora High School building trades students. Call the Rev. Barrett at (630) 294-8575 for more information.
