Vigorously prosecute drivers using cell phones
This is addressed to all police patrol officers: Please enforce the law against driving while talking and texting on hand-held cellphones.
The police officers I talked to about this issue state that they very seldom enforce or write tickets for this violation because it is so hard to prove in traffic court. I say, so what if they lose in court? By writing a ticket for the cellphone violation they force the violator to either pay the fine or take time off work to appear in traffic court to contest it.
Either way, the violator has a reminder via loss of money or time and aggravation to stop talking on a cellphone while driving.
In my daily drives, I see numerous drivers violating this law. They stay too long at traffic signals, drive slower than nearby traffic, take their eyes off the road and do not pay attention to their most important functions behind the wheel - to be attentive, be aware of changing conditions and drive carefully.
Drivers are distracted enough by changing the radio station, looking at their navigation system, talking on their Bluetooth phone, eating, shaving or putting on makeup while driving. How many lives can be saved if the police enforce this law?
If that life saved is your parent, child, sibling or friend, wouldn't it be worth the effort? Police, please give tickets to hand-held cellphone drivers and save lives, prevent accidents and reduce car insurance rates.
