Lake County sheriff's squad in crash near Gurnee
Lake County sheriff's office officials say they are investigating a Friday afternoon accident involving one of its squad cars and two other vehicles.
Detective Christopher Covelli said a sheriff's deputy in a marked squad car and two other drivers were traveling north on Route 45, just south of Rollins Road, when the collision happened about 3:15 p.m. The area is in unincorporated Lake County near Gurnee.
Covelli said the deputy and another driver suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. He said the deputy was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, while the other driver was brought to an emergency room in Grayslake.
The third driver was uninjured and drove from the scene.
"It's still under investigation," Covelli said. "It's unknown right now who was at fault."
Covelli said the deputy was not responding to an emergency call when the wreck occurred.
