Aurora man convicted of armed robbery

A 27-year-old Aurora man faces a lengthy prison term after his conviction this week for robbing a man at gunpoint in January.

Tranon D. Meeks, of the 400 block of Blackhawk Street, was convicted late Wednesday of armed robbery and cannabis possession after a jury trial.

Prosecutors said Meeks went to a person's home Jan. 9 to sell marijuana and instead pointed a gun at the victim, saying, "You know what this is."

Meeks stole the victim's watch, wallet, cellphone and backpack, which also contained marijuana, prosecutors said.

Because the offense involved a firearm, Meeks faces between 21 and 45 years in prison. He will be sentenced Dec. 2, and has been held at the Kane County jail since his arrest.
