Halloween Hustle 5K in Palatine a success

Threatening skies and periods of light to heavy rain didn't stop nearly 1,200 runners and walkers, both adults and children, from participating in the 10th annual Halloween Hustle 5K Fun Run and Walk and Kid's Dash in Palatine.

The Halloween spirit was set on high as people dressed up as minions, skeletons, super heroes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and other characters ran through the streets of historic downtown Palatine. Even family dogs and children in strollers were part of the action.

"This year was our best yet," said Aaron Del Mar, founder of Adrenaline Sports Management, the company that presented the event. "Spirits are always high, and the people who participate are always such good sports - despite the weather we've had in years past."

The top male finisher was James Akita with a time of 15:39 and the top female finisher was Elizabeth Chenoweth with a time of 19:05.
