Mississippi Preview Capsule

Mississippi

Last season: 21-13, advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons.

Nickname: Rebels. Coach: Andy Kennedy.

Conference: Southeastern.

Key returners: Senior Stefan Moody returns after scoring 16.6 points per game last season. The 5-foot-10 guard was sometimes streaky, but improved as the season progressed and averaged more than 18 points during SEC games. Junior forward Sebastian Saiz averaged 7.6 points and 5.5 rebounds last season and is expected to assume a bigger role this year.

Who left: The Rebels lost a lot, including point guard Jarvis Summers, who led the team with 160 assists last season. Ole Miss lost six of its top nine scorers from last season, including Summers, LaDarius White, M.J. Rhett and Dwight Coleby, who transferred to Kansas.

The Skinny: Ole Miss will build its offense around Moody, who is expected to be one of the league's most prolific scorers. Sebastian Saiz and Martavious Newby are veterans who should be solid players as well. But after that, there's a lot of uncertainty. Kennedy is very good at adding veteran transfers and adapting to their style. He'll try to do that again with junior college guard Sam Finley and forward Tomasz Gielo, who transferred to the Rebels from Liberty.
