Geneva water main project to affect Route 31 traffic
Expect traffic delays the next several weeks on Route 31 in Geneva as the city replaces a water main alongside the road from North Street to the northern city limit.
The work will start Monday, according to a news release from the city.
Replacing the 70-year-old main will take about three weeks. Then there will three weeks to test and connect residential water lines to the new main.
Most of the work will take place on the eastern edge of Wheeler Park. When necessary, motorists will be directed on Route 31 with one lane in each direction expected to remain open.
The contractor will notify residents when their water service will be switched to the new, larger main. Typically, according to the city, that requires shutting water service off for 30 minutes.
If water shut-off valves are located beneath driveways, the contractor will need to dig up the driveways. They will then be repaired.
The crews will begin parkway restoration park in the fall and finish it in March.
