Police: Woman attacked in Villa Park along Great Western Trail
Villa Park police are warning residents to be cautious after woman was attacked while walking on the Great Western Trail early Wednesday morning, officials said.
The victim was walking alone on the trail, between South Harvard Avenue and South Westmore-Meyers Road, around 7:40 a.m. when a man struck her from behind, police said.
The man was described as white, about 21 to 25 years old, thin and about 5 foot, 8 inches tall, with blond hair and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, according to a news release.
Nothing was stolen from the victim, and she sustained minor injuries.
"The Villa Park Police Department would also like to remind members of the community to exercise caution while traveling alone and keep the following safety tips in mind: When out, carry only necessary property, remain aware of your surroundings at all times, avoid conspicuous use of phones and other electronic devices, including headphones, in situations where those could distract you, and travel in groups whenever possible," the release said.
