Fire crews rescue contractor from Zionsville water tower
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - An Indianapolis man is recovering after falling inside a water tower on the Zionsville High School property.
Rescue crews from the Indianapolis Fire Department were called Tuesday after the 33-year-old man reported he had slipped while climbing down a ladder and wasn't able to get himself out due to a leg injury sustained in the 40-foot fall. The victim had been performing routine maintenance inside the empty water tower as a subcontractor for Citizens Energy Group.
Emergency teams scaled the water tower and set up a rope-and-basket system to pull the man from the structure and lower him to the ground. The rescue effort took about three hours.
The man was taken to a hospital in good condition with injuries that aren't considered to be life-threatening.
