Help troops at Gurnee swim event

Gurnee Park District will recognize Veterans Day with a special event from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. Visitors to Operation Salute and Swim are asked to bring care packages for overseas troops to FitNation, 1655 Nations Drive, Gurnee. For $6, patrons will get to do a patriotic craft, a family swim, write letters or draw pictures to be sent to the troops. Light refreshments will be provided. Most common items needed: Halloween candy, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, knit scarves and socks. Children 3 or younger and vets with valid identification will be free. Those who bring care packages won't have to pay, either.
