E. Dundee pumpkin contest deadline Oct. 31

The Dundee Township Visitors Center, at 319 N. River St. in East Dundee, will host its 17th annual Great Pumpkin Contest on Saturday, Oct. 31, in conjunction with the Depot Market. There is no fee to enter, and entires must be dropped off between 8 a.m. and noon on Oct. 31.

Entries are limited to one pumpkin per family/garden for largest, but families may enter more than one decorated/carved pumpkin. Decorated/carved entries must be actual pumpkins. Pumpkins that are fabricated or carved of other materials (Styrofoam, wood., etc.) will be welcomed for display, but cannot be part of the contest.

Judging will commence at noon for the Largest Pumpkin (by weight) and the Best Decorated or Carved Pumpkin. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded for each category. Prizes include several hundred dollars in merchandise and gift certificates donated by area businesses.

Oct. 31 also is the last market day of the season for the Depot Market, which will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday on the depot grounds. The market features locally grown flowers, produce, and honey, plus soaps and candles, baked goods, antiques, and other collectibles each week. For more information, call (847) 426-2255.
