CPS to OK two new charters, put 10 on academic probation
Chicago Public Schools will recommend opening two new charter schools to the Board of Education on Wednesday, including a new Noble Network Charter school on the Southwest Side that has been the topic of protests for months.
The district also wants to put 10 charter schools with shaky track records on an academic warning list, taking tougher, faster actions on poor performing charters, CEO Forrest Claypool said Monday. That's according to a proposal it wants the Board of Education to approve when it meets Wednesday.
"The policy will allow us to take faster action against poor performers and focus on making high quality options available where they are needed," Claypool said in a conference call. "This all goes back to a fundamental priority, which is to deliver quality education for our kids regardless of where our families choose to send them."
